The League has asked us to make all club members aware of the following notice.

19th July 2010

Discipline Season 2010

Dear Honorary Secretary,

I am writing to you to express the concerns of the League’s Executive and General Committee regarding an alarming increase in disciplinary matters in 2010.

So far this season a total of 26 weeks of playing bans have been imposed resulting in deductions of 104 points from clubs playing records. One serious breach of the Code of Conduct and one serious complaint have yet to be concluded which will add to those totals.

Apart from the obvious impact bad discipline has on clubs with point deductions it also impacts on the organisation of the league with three umpires, and the threat of more, withdrawing from the umpires’ panel already this season because of abuse and the actions and attitude of players. Due to that and illness we now have a shortage of umpires to officiate in the Northumberland Cricket League.

The League have had complaints of threats of violence used by individuals towards other players on the cricket field, this isn’t tolerated in society and won’t be tolerated by the league. We will be monitoring all reports and action will be taken against individuals.  Please remember, in Disciplinary matters, the balance of proof is not required, only the balance of probability.

This is reaching crisis point, the actions of a small minority of players whose attitude and actions are unacceptable, have a compound effect on everyone within our league, this can not, and will not be allowed to continue. Foul language on the cricket field is unacceptable and also, won’t be tolerated.  Respect is a word used in all sports nowadays, in our sport of recreational cricket, without exception, every player should have respect for the umpires, their clubs, other players and the game, and act accordingly.

I ask that this letter be read out to all players before the start of play at matches on Saturday 24th July 2010 to make them aware of the problems. I am sure that every player who has taken the time to listen carefully to this letter will be concerned at the current stat of affairs.

Yours faithfully,

Keith Marshall.  Chairman
